On December 25, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev launched the construction of another new plant to increase the production capacity of the Shurtan gas chemical complex by 3 times.

According to Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the new plant will annually produce 280 thousand tons of polyethylene and 100 thousand tons of polypropylene by processing 430 thousand tons of naphtha produced at the GTL plant, with about 800 new jobs to be created.

Due to these two new plants (UzGTL and Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex), the first large gas chemical cluster of the country will be created at the Shurtan complex, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the cost of this new project is $ 1.839 billion, $ 629 million - Uzbekneftegaz's own funds, $ 1.21 billion - foreign loans.

The project's payback period is 8.5 years, and the internal return rate (IRR) is 11.7%.

Chevron Philipps (USA), Lummus Technology (USA), Novelon Technology (Germany) and Enter Engineering (Singapore) are licensees and contractors of the project.

In fact, the project to expand the capacities of the Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex has been implemented at least since the beginning of 2021. To date, design work has already been completed by 52%, construction and installation work - by 2.14%.
