President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, through video conferencing, launched the construction of the Tashkent Pharma Park Innovative Scientific and Production Pharmaceutical Cluster in the Zangiata district of Tashkent province on Friday.
The concept and plan for setting up the cluster were approved by a presidential decree in January. The project is aimed at organizing the production of innovative medicines, medical products and high-end equipment, training of modern personnel and the development of the local pharmaceutical industry.
The 79 ha cluster will host an tech park and an industrial zone.
The tech-park will house academic, scientific and drug development sectors. It will host the Pharmaceutical Technical University, which will offer pharmaceuticals, medical technology, cosmetology and other programs.
The industrial zone will house the production facilities of major pharmaceutical companies. In the future, it is planned to set international hospitals and medical centers.
An agreement has been reached with the Cooperation Fund for Economic Development of Eximbank of South Korea on financing the cluster’s scientific and educational bodies through a long-term loan.
