The Ministry of Energy has announced a call for bids for a 100 MW wind farm in the Karauzyak district of Karakalpakstan.
The tender will be held in two stages - qualification selection and review of technical and commercial proposals. Bids for the first stage are to be accepted until May 13.
The project will be implemented as part of an agreement between the Government of Uzbekistan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on the construction of wind power stations in with a total capacity of 1 GW. In particular, it is planned to build another 200 MW wind farm in Karakalpakstan.
In January of this year, the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade and the UAE Masdar signed agreements on the construction of a US$ 600 million 400 MW wind farm in the Navoi province. The construction of the station is scheduled to begin in the Q III of 2020, and to be commissioned in 2022.
In April 2015, the German GEO-NET and Inec-GOPA prepared an of the wind energy atlas of the six provinces of Uzbekistan, with the projected wind energy potential estimated at over 520 thousand megawatts of installed capacity in 17 thousand sq.m. with the production of 1.07 trillion kWh of electricity annually.
