The next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, co-chaired by the prime ministers of the two countries, Abdulla Aripov and Kohir Rasulzoda, will be held in the second half of April in Guliston, Tajikistan.
The government of Tajikistan told Asia Plus that the meeting of the commission, which was supposed to be held at the end of last year, was postponed due to “absence of pending issues between Tashkent and Dushanbe, while, the bilateral ties were in dynamic upward trend in all areas."
The upcoming meeting will mainly discuss the ways to enhance trade, economic, humanitarian, cultural, scientific and technical cooperation between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
The volumes of Tajikistan’s electricity supplies to Uzbekistan, natural gas from Uzbekistan to Tajikistan and their prices for the current year will also be agreed at this meeting.
Last year, 1 billion 425.1 million kWh of Tajik electricity was supplied to Uzbekistan at a price of 2 US cents per kilowatt. The total value of electricity export from Tajikistan to Uzbekistan stood at US$ 28.5 million.
In 2019, Tajikistan purchased 140 MCM of natural gas from Uzbekistan worth of US$ 17.7 million.
