The Uzbek Ministry of Transport intends to support projects on digitalization and logistics optimization for the Europe-Caucasus-Asia TRACECA transport corridor, the ministry said.
On Monday, March 2, the Minister of Transport, Elyor Ganiev and the TRACECA Secretary General Aset Asavbaev in Tashkent discussed issues of Uzbekistan’s participation in projects implemented within the TRACECA digitalization corridor. Among them are ensuring transport security, improving border crossing procedures, optimizing logistics centers and ports, as well as using an integrated border control system.
Elyor Ganiev noted that in order to enhance participation in TRACECA, Uzbekistan intends to effectively use the potential of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway.
In the early 2000s, Uzbekistan virtually rolled back from TRACECA projects, focusing on the development of transport corridors through the SCO countries, as well as the Middle East and the Persian Gulf. In December 2017, Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved a program for diversifying foreign trade routes for 2018-2022, which also includes the development of transit routes to European countries through the Caucasus and Turkey. At the end of January this year, the first freight trains from Kyrgyzstan passed through Uzbekistan to Georgia.
