The Prime Ministers of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov and Kazakhstan Askar Mamin opened the Beineu - Akjigit - Uzbek border (to Nukus) international highway. The footage of the opening ceremony was published on the Instagram page of the Kazakh PM.
“The highway will allow cut the route of Uzbek goods to the markets of Russia and the Caucasus countries through Kazakhstan’s seaports and highways,” said Askar Mamin in the commentary to the footage.
He added that the two-way trade between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan in 2018 topped US$ 3 billion, while this figure increased by 25% year-to-date.
Recall building logistics infrastructure is one of the main challenges facing Uzbekistan for the sake of export development, since the country does not have access to the sea lanes. Speaking at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in June, Shavkat Mirziyoyev called for starting the development of the SCO Cooperation Strategy on the development of the interconnection of efficient economic and transport corridors.
