Uzautosanoat and the French PSA Groupe will review the concept of the car plant project in the Jizzakh province and optimize economic parameters, the Uzautosanoat said in a statement.
"Due to some unforeseen amendments made to the initial data, the partners are now reviewing the project’s concept and optimizing the economic parameters," the statement said.
Currently, construction works are being completed at the facility. Contracts have been concluded for the supply of process and engineering equipment, Uzautosanoat noted.
However, there are news surfacing that the construction works have been halted, and the French carmaker even wants to drop the project due to its “unviability”.
The capsule laying ceremony into the foundation of the Uzbekistan Peugeot Citroen Automotive (UzPCA) plant took place in July 2017 in the Jizzakh free economic zone.
The joint venture, whose initial capital is 30 million euros, requires 130 million euros of total investments. The declared capacity of the plant is 13 thousand cars of Peugeot Expert and 3000 Peugeot Boxer models.
The plant was initially supposed to be commissioned in Q1 of 2019. However, during his visit to the Jizzakh province, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that the facility should be launched before December 11, 2018.
