Chinese Zhuhai Singyes Green Building Technology won the tender for the construction of solar photovoltaic plant in Samarkand region of Uzbekistan - the first in Central Asia.

Zhuhai Singyes Green Building Technology has been declared the winner of the tender for the design, construction and operation of 100 MW capacity solar photovoltaic power plant in Samarkand province, - UzbekEnergo announced.

The call for bids for the turnkey basis construction of a power plant with crystalline photovoltaic elements and fixed panels inclination angle was announced in October, 2014. The construction period could reach up to two years. Consulting services for the project will be provided by the German consortium including GOPA International Energy Consultant, Suntrace and Renewables Academy.

Uzbekenergo plans that the first solar plant of its kind in Central Asia will generate 200 million kWh of electricity per year. The US$ 275.8 million project will be funded by loans from the Asian Development Bank and the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan - $ 110 million each, and the own funds of UzbekEnergo of 55.8 million dollars.

By 2020, it is planned to build Uzbekistan of three solar plants with total capacity of 300 MW. Apart from the Samarkand project, two similar power station will be launched in Namangan and Surkhandarya regions. The total cost of the stations is estimated at $ 450 million.
