Afghanistan's power grid will be connected to the unified energy system of Uzbekistan and the Central Asia. This was stated during the conference: Realities and Proxpects of the Electricity Sector Reforms– Experience Gained, Lessons Learned and Myths Debunked, co-organized by Uzbekenergo and the Asian Development Bank back in June.
The panelists at the conference noted that Uzbekistan's power system is located in the centre of the power system of Central Asia and this facilitates electricity exchange between the countries through Uzbekenergo's energy grid.
Uzbekenergo will also export electricity to Afghanistan and within the bilateral agreement between the governments, Uzbekenergo started construction of 500 kV transmission line Surkhan-Poli-Khomri. This will allow to connect Afghanistan power system to the unified energy system of Uzbekistan and the Central Asia.
