Uzbekistan will allocate US$ 57.7 million for electrification of the Marokand-Navoi rail line. The draft presidential Measures to Implement Electrification of the Marokand-Navoi Railway Section Project Decree has been posted on the portal for discussion.
The explanatory note to the draft said that the completion of the 135 km Samarkand to Bukhara railway electrification project ensured the movement of up to 250 km/h high-speed passenger trains.
However, this project did not provide for electrification of the existing Marakand-Navoi railway section.
The decree provides for the electrification of the 157.1 km Marokand-Navoi railway, construction of safety facilities (crossings, security posts, railroads), modernization of alarm systems and telecommunications.
The capital investment into the project is estimated at US$ 57.7 million, US$ 39.4 million to be provide by Uzbekistan Railways and US$ 17.67 million of centralized investments.
The project will be implemented in 2018-2020.
