US$ 10 limit for duty-free personal import of consumer goods from neighboring countries is expected to become a thing of the past in Uzbekistan, a source in the government said.
While the decree canceling the limit has not yet been signed, the checkpoints at the Kazakh border has been allowing from January 1 to import goods for personal use worth up to $ 1,000 without payment of customs duties.
The $ 10 limit was established in June 2009 and was aimed at "protecting the domestic consumer market", bBefore that, the limit was 25 US dollars. From non-neighboring countries personal duty-free import limit is 1000 dollars.
The duty-free import of goods does not apply to individuals importing goods intended for commercial purposes.
