The European Economic Days forum in Uzbekistan has successfully concluded in Tashkent, marking a new stage in economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union.
The event brought together over 400 delegates, including representatives from the business community, international financial institutions and government entities from both the EU and Uzbekistan. The forum featured 13 panel sessions and roundtable discussions, along with over 30 bilateral meetings with national business delegations focused on strengthening business ties and developing joint projects. Particular focus was placed on Uzbekistan’sadvancements toward WTO membership and the country’s ongoing reform efforts.
The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, sent their welcoming addresses to participants, highlighting that strengthening trade and economic cooperation is currently a top priority for both sides.
The Secretary General of the Europe-Uzbekistan Association for Economic Cooperation (EUROUZ), Oybek Shaykhov, highlighted these improving relations, “In the past three years, Uzbekistan and the European Union have deepened their economic engagement to an extent unmatched in the previous three decades, and EUROUZ is proud to be at the forefront of fostering this relationship between the European private sector and Uzbekistan. The strong participation at this event is a clear testament to
that progress.” According to Laziz Kudratov, Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade, Uzbekistan and the EU are currently implementing joint projects worth over $30 billion. Nearly 1,000 enterprises with European investment operate in Uzbekistan, benefiting from highly favorable conditions for collaborative projects in sectors such as electrical engineering, machinery, chemicals, mining and metallurgy, energy, agriculture, textile manufacturing, tourism and more.
As part of the business program at the two-day forum, the EU and Uzbekistan exchanged a Partnership Roadmap for sustainable raw materials for 2025–2026. Another important event of the first day was the formal opening of the Benelux Chamber of Commerce in Uzbekistan, attended by ambassadors of three countries and officials from Uzbekistan and the European Union.
The successful hosting of the European Economic Days in Uzbekistan demonstrates the commitment of both the EU and Uzbekistan to deepen their economic cooperation and partnership. New agreements, strengthened bilateral relations and the launch of key joint initiatives reflect growing mutual trust and create opportunities for further active collaboration in the future. The European Economic Days were held under the auspices of the Europe-Uzbekistan Association for Economic Cooperation (EUROUZ), with partial financial support from the EU and in collaboration with the OECD and ITC.
