Construction of a green hydrogen production complex in Uzbekistan is scheduled to be commenced in August, the Minister of Energy Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov told in an interview to Uzbekistan 24 channel.
Green hydrogen is a brand new area for us. This is a project agreed with Saudi ACWA Power to produce hydrogen from renewables. The president stressed that it was necessary to launch this project in August and speed up the work, the minister said.
At the beginning of the year, the Ministry of Energy and Uzkimyosanoat signed two agreements with ACWA Power, Spot wrote with reference to the Zawya agency.
As per one of them, the Saudi company will invest in a green hydrogen production complex. The facility will be located in Chirchik at the existing ammonia plant.
The design capacity of the future complex will be 3,000 tons of hydrogen annually. Its launch will reportedly reduce the carbon footprint of the chemical industry and help "decarbonize the economy".
Reportedly, ACWA Power will also launch ecofriendly ammonia production unit. According to estimates, it will help save 600 million cubic meters of gas annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.5 million tons.
