As part of the negotiation process for a free trade agreement between Uzbekistan and Korea Republic, the Deputy Minister of Investments Badriddin Obidov had talks with the Director-General in charge of free trade agreements of the South Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy Yang Gi-wook via conference call.
Based on the outcomes of two rounds of negotiations between the chief negotiators and four meetings of expert groups the parties emphasized the effectiveness of the parties’ efforts in the process of agreeing on the draft agreement.
Also, the parties discussed the next steps for entering into the free trade agreement, considered the level of liberalization of markets and the format of the deal.
In addition, the South Korean side welcomed the active efforts and important achievements of Uzbekistan in the process of joining the WTO and noted that the country was ready to help in holding the 6th meeting of the working group on WTO accession.
At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached on stepping up the efforts of expert groups to resolve issues related to the level of liberalization of markets and the format of concluding a free trade agreement.
