Over 23 thousand Uzbeks obtained Russian citizenship in 2020, an increase by 60% to the previous year. In general, a record number of foreigners were granted the Russian citizenship in 2020.
According to the Russian Interior Ministry, 656,347 foreigners were granted citizenship in 2020. In 2019, the figure stood at 497,817.
Uzbekistan does not recognize dual nationality and those arriving with Russian passport are seen as Uzbek citizens unless they officially apply for renunciation from the Uzbek citizenship.
