Today on August 28, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation led by Singapore's Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
According to the president's press service, the senior minister opened the meeting by conveying warm greetings and best wishes from Singapore's President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. Both sides noted the steady development of relations between Uzbekistan and Singapore, with political dialogue and bilateral ties at all levels continuing to be actively supported.
Trade turnover and the number of joint ventures between the two countries are growing rapidly, with Singaporean investment in Uzbekistan's economy reaching nearly $2 billion. The parties backed plans by Singaporean businesses to expand their investment activity in Uzbekistan. They also agreed to develop a medium-term joint program on strategic and innovative partnership, prioritizing trade, investment, technology transfer, public administration modernization, human capital development, and digitalization, among other areas.
Particular attention was paid to implementing Singapore's advanced experience in improving the operation of special economic zones in Uzbekistan and in developing the Tashkent International Financial Center and the digital banking system. The sides also affirmed continued support for the work of Singaporean higher education institutions in Uzbekistan.
The two sides stressed the need to establish regular dialogue between political and economic institutions to review progress on agreements reached at the highest level and coordinate joint plans. They also welcomed Uzbekistan's recent accession to the United Nations' Singapore Convention on Mediation.
The two sides also exchanged views on mutual support within international organizations and on regional cooperation.
