A track maintenance worker from the mechanized crew of workshop No. 20 at the Tashkent Province Railway Junction branch, Azzam Ibragimov, rescued two girls from the water, according to an announcement by the press service of Uzbekistan Railways.

A video from after the incident spread across social media, showing the bridge beyond which lies a dangerous stretch of the Karasu Canal.

The incident took place on June 9th. Azzam Ibragimov was carrying out maintenance work near the Karasu Canal, which runs through the Sergeli district of Tashkent, when he spotted two girls being swept away by the current, crying out for help. Without hesitation, he jumped into the canal and pulled the children to safety.

Officials of Uzbekistan Railways honored him with a letter of commendation, a commemorative gift, and a cash bonus.
