Background

The Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme (ITEC), is a leading capacity building platform of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. Instituted in 1964, ITEC is one of the oldest institutionalized arrangements for international capacity building having trained more than 200,000 officials from 160+ countries in both the civilian and in the defence sector. ITEC Programme offers nearly 10,000 fully-funded in-person training opportunities through nearly 400 courses offered at 100+ eminent institutes in India each year. Apart from our regular calendar-based training programmes, India also responds to country-specific requests for training in specific areas of governance by organizing customised training programmes which are designed and delivered by the leading institutions in India. Since the independence of Uzbekistan, more than 2500 candidates from Uzbekistan have been trained under ITEC Programme.

In 2024 more than 160 candidates from Uzbekistan were trained in India under this programme and 40% of them were women. They participated in courses on renewable energy, women empowerment and leadership, English Teachers training, Information Technology (robotics, Al, Big data analytics), agriculture, entrepreneurship development and public health management. These courses were conducted by prestigious Indian institutions like Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), Indian Institute of Public Administration etc.

ITEC Programme is one of the remarkably successful examples of development cooperation between India and Uzbekistan.
