The Turkish company TUSAS sold its ANKA drones to Uzbekistan, the company said on its X account. The Uzbek authorities did not post any information on the purchase and neither the contract price.

Turkey is one of the global defense industry giants, including in manufacturing of military UAVs. ANKA drones, aprt from the Turkish armed forces, are also used by the armies of Algeria, Kazakhstan, Tunisia, Malaysia, Indonesia and Chad. The ANKAs are also being used by the Ukraine’s Armed Forces against the Russian invasion hordes.

Earlier in November 2023, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited a military unit in Surkhandarya and was shown a flight of the Turkish BAYRAKTAR TB2 reconnaissance and strike drone.

On June 6, 2024, Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Turkish aerospace company during his visit to Ankara and got acquainted with the presentation of the latest Turkish Kaan fighter aircraft.

Also, on June 26, 2024, Shavkat Mirziyoyev hosted a delegation led by the Minister of National Defense of Turkey Yaşar Güler in Tashkent and talked about the prospects for developing military-technical cooperation.

In December 2024, the Minister of Defense of Uzbekistan, Major General Shukhrat Kholmukhamedov, speaking at a committee meeting of the Senate, said that the main focus of the military exercises in 2024 was on the use of new unmanned aerial vehicles used in modern warfare, improving the skills of combating and controlling them, and mastering new tactical actions.
