Jahongir Azimov was confirmed as director of the Public Fund for the Support and Development of National Mass Media, the Fund’s press service said.
Jahongir Azimov, 32, has undergraduate degree from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy and the graduate degree of the University of Alabama (with major in Creative journalism, 2022).
He served in the office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan. In 2017, he became the organizer of the first TEDx conference in Uzbekistan, TEDxMustaqillikSquare. He was a freelanced for Voice of Tashkent.
He also worked for the Dunyo news agency under the Foreign Ministry (2018−2020). Since 2022, he has been columnist at the Gazeta and conducted interviews and told people’s stories. From the same year he has been teaching at the Tashkent Webster University.
Jakhongir Azimov called his work as director of the Mass Media Foundation “a responsibility to my profession and the community of media people in Uzbekistan.” “I really hope that everything will work out. Time will tell the rest,” he wrote on Facebook.
The former director of the fund, Akramjon Fozilov, became chairman of its board of trustees.
