Legalizing betting sites in Uzbekistan causes a lot of controversy in the public, and it is too early to talk about any time frame for making a decision, First Deputy Director of the National Agency for Prospective Projects (NAPP) Vyacheslav Pak told reporters at an event at the Agency of Information and Mass Communications.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree in December 2019 providing for the legalization of betting sites, but in April 2022 the head of state canceled this decision with a new decree. But already in April 2023, he ordered the development of a regulatory framework for bettin sites to be returned to such development.

“To legalize or not to legalize online gambling and betting is a very controversial issue in the society itself. Some are in favour, some are against. Now the question is about developing a position,” said Vyacheslav Pak, answering a question about the possible timing of the legalization of bookmakers in the country.

He clarified that the decision on betting in Uzbekistan will be made based on the results of consideration of proposals “that must be made.”

Currently, the Uzbekistan legislation prohibits the organization and conduct of gambling and betting.
