At today’s government meeting, Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed senior officials to prepare and submit to him proposals to solve the problem of traffic jams in Tashkent city, his spokesman Sherzod Asadov said.

According to him, traffic in Tashkent is becoming a big problem. On some streets on weekdays the average traffic is at 7-9 magnitude, sometimes it reaches 10, and on a number of streets there is a double load. As a result, during rush hour it takes twice as long to get to your destination, he underscored.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed Deputy PM Achilbay Ramatov, the Ministry of Transport and the Tashkent city mayor’s office to take a systemic approach and prepare proposals on the problem of traffic jams, and then submit them to him.

“All senior officials in charge of urban planning and traffic should make the motto “City for Pedestrians” as their main principle. Meanwhile, public transport should have priority, and cars should become a luxury,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Several years ago, the president declared the priority of pedestrians and cyclists in the road traffic hierarchy: “Pedestrians - cyclists - public transport - vehicles.”
