Tools for automatic recording of traffic violations, installed in Uzbekistan, are now also recording unfastened seat belts. This is stated in a statement from the press service of the Road traffic safety department.

The department reminded that according to traffic rules, both the driver and front seat passengers must fasten their seat belts before starting to move a vehicle that is designed with seat belts.

There is also a requirement that the driver warn passengers to fasten seatbelts when starting to drive.

Drivers performing a reversing maneuver, as well as drivers of linear taxis, are also required to wear a seat belt.

Children under 12 years of age are allowed not to wear a seat belt in the back seat, a driving instructor when a student is driving, pregnant women and sick passengers whose condition does not allow them to wear a seat belt (if there is a certificate to this effect).

Drivers and passengers of special vehicles that have appropriate color schemes on the outer surface and are equipped with flashing lights in blue, red or blue and red may also be unfastened.

According to Part 1 of Article 125 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility, failure by drivers to fasten seat belts entails a 165 thousand soum fine.

The law still does not provide for a fine for passengers, although the requirement to wear a seat belt in the front seat came into force on May 1, 2022.

The use of seat belts in the rear seats, as well as special seats for children under 7 years of age and special restraints for children 7-12 years of age in Uzbekistan is only a recommendation.
