On September 19, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev addressed the general political debate of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that the current session was taking place “in the context of fundamental changes in the system of international relations.”

“There is a crisis of trust, and of the global security institutions and breaches of international law are intensifying. All this causes growing tension in the world,” he said.

“Due to geopolitical differences, new obstacles are emerging to the free trade, investment and innovation. Dialogue has been noticeably undermined even on issues concerning the fate of all humanity, such as climate change, the fight against hunger and inequality,” the president noted.

In such a difficult situation, Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized, “it is more necessary than ever to preserve the spirit of harmony and practical cooperation, to unite countries on the basis that common interests are higher than existing contradictions.”

He recalled that last year Uzbekistan put forward the Samarkand Solidarity Initiative in the name of common security and prosperity.

“Our main goal is a deep awareness of responsibility for the present and future of our countries and peoples, involving all parties ready for open and constructive cooperation in the global dialogue,” he emphasized.

“I am confident that holding the Future Summit next year, on the initiative of the UN Secretary General, will serve to solve pressing problems of international and regional development, and further increase the influence and authority of our organization (UN - ed.),” said the leader of Uzbekistan.

“At this critical moment in history, we should all think about what kind of planet we will leave to future generations,” he said.

“Only through common aspirations and joint efforts can lasting peace and prosperity be achieved. More than ever, we need mutual trust, solidarity and cooperation,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized.
