At an open meeting on August 24, the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan rehabilitated another 240 people who were victims of Stalinist repressions between 1920 to 1931, the press service of the Supreme Court said.
In total, five criminal cases were considered and referred to the Supreme Court. The list of victims of repression was compiled by the national working group, formed on the instructions of the president Shavkat Mirziyoyev on October 8, 2020, with the aim of studying the legacy and keeping the memory of the victims of repression.
According to the case, between 1929 to 1931 in various districts of modern Karakalpakstan, Surkhandarya, Navoi, Samarkand and Kashkadarya provinces, 240 citizens of the Uzbek SSR and the Kazakh SSR were accused of participating in the so-called Basmachi movement, the formation of armed gangs and actions with the aim of armed uprisings or counter-revolutionary activities against the Soviet government.
The Supreme Court satisfied the protests filed to the Judicial Collegium for Criminal Cases by the Deputy Prosecutor General of Uzbekistan for these criminal cases. As a result, in accordance with Article 83 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (Grounds for Rehabilitation), 240 people were rehabilitated.
Earlier, another 616 people were rehabilitated. Thus, the total number of rehabilitated reached 856 people.
