Share of cash in the total money supply decreased even more in January-September, the Central Bank said in a review on cash circulation.

As of October 1, the total money supply (M2, includes cash in circulation and non-cash funds) reached 256 trillion soums, having increased by 26.7% over the year. The volume of cash (M0) increased by 10.4% over the year - from 48 trillion to 53 trillion soums.

The share of cash in circulation decreased by 3.2 percentage points - from 23.9% to 20.7% (in January-September 2022 it was 24.4%).

In January-September, the total amount of cash receipts to banks topped 605 trillion soums, which is 27% more than the same period last year. The share of cash receipts decreased from 62% to 59%, and through points of sale increased from 38% to 41%.

Over nine months, the size of bank cash turnover stood at 727 trillion soums. Cash receipts reached 360 trillion soums, cash withdrawals - 367 trillion soums. The resulting difference between cash deposits and receipts at bank cash desks was covered by the Central Bank, which additionally issued 8 trillion soums of cash into circulation.

During this period, 740 trillion soums (+31%) were credited to bank cards. Of this amount, 167 trillion soums (+21%) were withdrawn, including through ATMs (share - 83%). In general, the share of cash withdrawals decreased from 24.4% to 22.6% (January-September 2022 - 27.3%), that is, funds received on cards are cashed less and less often.

The share of cash expenses from bank cash desks for the purchase of foreign currency increased from 22% to 24% - from 66 trillion to 88.1 trillion soums (+ 33.4% year-on-year).

At the end of April, it became known that the government of Uzbekistan had been developing measures to combat the shadow economy in order to reduce the use of cash. The purchase and sale of real estate and cars, salaries of employees of budget-financed organizations, and others may be transferred to a non-cash form.
