During a meeting with teachers on Monday in Bostanlyk district of Tashkent province, the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev underscored a significant increase in the volume of minerals production, including gold and uranium.
“Due to new approaches in geological exploration, the volume of annual gold production has increased from 86 tons in 2016 to 118 tons this year. Over the same period, the volume of uranium production has also doubled,” he said.
According to the World Gold Council, Uzbekistan produced 129.1 tons of gold in 2024 (119.6 tons in 2023), ranking 10th in the world.
In the first seven months of this year, Uzbekistan exported $7.6 billion worth of gold, which is 1.8 times more than in the same period last year. The gold exports almost 38% of the country's total exports.
Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Company, the fourth largest company in terms of gold production in the world, increased gold production in 2024 to 3.10 million troy ounces (96.4 tons), which is 5.4% more than in 2023 (2.94 million ounces / 91.4 tons), which was due to the launch of new mining and processing capacities.
Apart from NMMC, gold is also produced by Almalyk MMC and other small companies.
