The German car giant Volkswagen and Uzautosanoat have signed a cooperation agreement. Martin Sander, BOD Member at Volkswagen said on LinkedIn page today.
As I write this, the ink is drying on an exciting new contract: one that marks Volkswagen’s strategic expansion into the Uzbek market – a rapidly emerging and fast-evolving hub in Central Asia with huge potential, he said.
So why Uzbekistan? With rising income levels, the country is poised for an automotive boom. The strength of the Volkswagen brand resonates with Uzbekistan’s growing middle-class, who we know are seeking high-quality German-branded cars, he added
“It’s not only this aspiring demographic that is growing – Uzbekistan’s overall population is on the rise. This means there will be even greater demand for reliable products now and in the future.”
“We have a portfolio that is perfectly tailored to this market, with eight stylish sedans and spacious SUVs being exactly what the Uzbek customer is looking for.”
“At the crossroads of Europe and Asia, Uzbekistan is a place that we can serve effectively and efficiently, through Volkswagen China. We couldn’t take this bold step without great partners. We’ll start by ramping up local SKD-production with Alyans Auto, subsidiary of UzAuto Motors, which is renowned in the region for its engineering and manufacturing prowess, while our partner UzAuto is the automotive market leader in Uzbekistan.”
Volkswagen's re-entry into Uzbekistan
In 2020, Uzautosanoat and Volkswagen Group Rus (Volkswagen's Russian subsidiary) signed a deal on manufacture of commercial vehicles in Jizzakh free economic zone at Jizzakh Auto.
In the summer of that year, Jizzakh Automobile Plant launched the sales of Volkswagen commercial vehicles the, and in the fall - its Škoda models (part of the Volkswagen Group since 1991).
Following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Volkswagen decided to leave the Russian market. In May 2023, the company was sold to the Russian car dealer Avilon without a buyback option.
Jizzakh Auto has changed its name to Alyans Auto and is the official distributor of Volkswagen, Skoda and Jetta car brands in Uzbekistan. These brands are part of the Volkswagen Group.
