Businesses in Uzbekistan have had their electricity and gas tariffs reduced when the limit is surpassed. This is stipulated by the Cabinet of Ministers December 27 Resolution.
As previously reported, the new Rules for Use of Electricity and Gas (approved by the Cabinet of Ministers May 31 Resolution) stipulated that legal entities must pay double the tariff when the electricity consumption limit surpasses by 10% of the volume stipulated by the contract.
At the meeting with business leaders in August, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that all enterprises were unhappy with this double tariff. Such restrictions affect the growth of the entire industry, he said.
He instructed the government to take steps by November 1 to create conveniences for businesses when prepaying for electricity and gas, as well as to increase the contractual limits for the volume of energy resource consumption.
However, the Cabinet of Ministers belatedly adopted these amendments, for the development of which the Ministry of Energy was in charge of, and which took effect on December 30. According to the document, the size of additional payment for electricity and gas consumed in excess of the contractual limits should be reduced by at least 10 times.
In particular, businesses will now continue to pay at the base rate, even if the consumption of electricity and gas exceeds the limit by up to 20%. If the excess is more than 20%, the fee will increase by only 20% of the base rate.
