Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan have signed the mutual visa recognition agreement for the Silk Road countries and 15 other accords during the first Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan Interregional Forum in Shymkent, the press service of the Kazakhstan Prime Minister said.
According to Kazakh media, this will allow foreign tourists visiting Kazakhstan to freely enter Uzbekistan and vice versa. In the future, other countries of the Silk Road - Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan may join the agreement.
The parties also agreed to set up a JV between UzAvtoTransTekhnika and KTZ Express. Also, Uztransgaz and KazTransGaz signed an agreement on transportation of natural gas through Uzbekistan.
The forum, held at the initiative of the leaders of the two countries, was attended by the provincial governors, as well as First Deputy Prime Ministers of Uzbekistan Achilbay Ramatov and Kazakhstan Askar Mamin.
As noted at the event, the two-way trade turnover in nine months surpassed US$ 2 billion, a 40% increase compared to the same period last year, with trade volume expected to reach US$ 3 billion in the year-end.
Achilbay Ramatov and Askar Mamin inspected Zhybek Zholy and Yallama border checkpoints and pointed to the need to modernize their infrastructure, equip with digital technologies, speed up the reconstruction of existing checkpoints, as well as to build a bus station.
